Interest Groups: Minority & Women Entrepreneurship

Minority and Women is a special interest group organized under the auspices of the Articles of Incorporation of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) to promote and encourage the development and advancement of programs and services in the specific entrepreneurship field and to provide a forum for information exchange.


Improve the success rates of underrepresented and historically-excluded entrepreneurs through research, practice, and pedagogy.

  • Increase the quality and quantity of presentations at the USASBE Conference

  • Increase the visibility of the M&W Entrepreneurship Interest Group

  • Increase membership in the M&W Entrepreneurship Interest Group

  • Identify and promote M&W Entrepreneurship Programs

  • Encourage and promote M&W Entrepreneurship research


To engage and assist entrepreneurship scholars, educators, and practitioners interested in advancing entrepreneurial opportunities and successful venture creation and growth for underrepresented and historically excluded groups of entrepreneurs. Acknowledging that these entrepreneurs face unique issues and obstacles, USASBE’s Minority and Women’s Entrepreneurship SIG seeks to take the lead in developing pedagogy, conducting quality and meaningful research, streamlining practice and building external relations that increase participation and success rates for these groups of entrepreneurs.

Leadership of the Group is elected annually by the Group membership; questions relative to Group mission, membership; annual work program and objectives should be directed to one of the following members of the leadership team:

A member of USASBE in good standing, that has professional interest in the specific field of the Group and wishes to pursue expansion and promotion of the field and personal advancement through knowledge exchange and participation in the mission of the Group, is eligible for membership.
Our membership consist of academics, practitioners and students engaged in and/or interested in the research, teaching, study and practice of entrepreneurship as it relates to minorities and women who venture into ownership, sole or in part, of a business enterprise.

1. Raise the profile of the MWE SIG.

2. Increase active membership and contributions to SIG.

3. Establish external relationships for SIG advancement.
4. Improve SIG communications and professional networking opportunities.
5. Improve research opportunities for SIG members.
6. Establish best practices for teaching and pedagogy in minority and women entrepreneurship.
